The role

A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for a WH&S Advisor to join the business based in Sydney to partner with the David Jones retail sites across the whole of NSW to support the continuous improvements of WH&S.

The role of WH&S Advisor will suit a hands-on, self-motivated subject matter expert in WH&S, who can operate autonomously, taking the lead in identifying initiatives across the NSW store network.

What does the role involve?

  • Complete and facilitate instore WH&S inspections and audits to identify potential hazards.
  • Support NSW Store Management to identify solutions to eliminate and improves hazard risks.
  • Communicate and support instore David Jones WH&S initiatives with the guidance of senior WHS team members.
  • Help drive WH&S continuous improvement by being regularly present instore to create strong partnerships with NSW Store Management.
  • Support the NSW Store Management teams to ensure effective completion of Safety Committee Meetings
  • Provide support to the senior WHS team with the Internal audit plan.
  • Partner with NSW Store Management to investigate WHS matters and incidents.
  • Support and guide on all applicable actions to reduce the risk reoccurrence.
  • Participate in the issue resolution process and mediate when required to resolve WHS issues.
  • Assist in the delivery WHS training programs.
  • Encourage prompt reporting of incidents, hazards and risks.
  • Support Return To Work (RTW) Plan creation with WHS Injury Management Team.
  • Provide feedback on continuous improvement in the Work health and safety systems and processes to ensure consistency.
  • Liaise with NSW regulatory bodies and external stakeholders where required.
  • Respond to inquiries, participate in inspections, and represent NSW in WHS-related matters.
  • Management of work and non-work-related injuries, including return to work plans where required.
  • Liaise with key internal and external stakeholders to proactively manage workplace injury claims.
  • Coordinate administrative compliance to meet Return to work obligations.
  • Timely response and management of serious incidents, events, or regulatory visits which may include the requirement to work additional hours from time to time as appropriate (including on evenings, weekends or holidays).

Who are we looking for?

The successful candidate who’ll THRIVE in the role will possess the following skills and experience:

  • Previous experience operating in a similar role
  • Proven capabilities of and desire to work in an autonomous role
  • Ability to cope with a diverse portfolio of stakeholders
  • High attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Ability to set priorities and work in a fast-paced environment that doesn’t adhere to a 9-5 timeframe
  • Internal auditing experience is highly desirable
  • Injury management experience is highly desirable  
  • Tertiary qualification in Work Health & Safety
  • Certificate IV Training & Assessment is highly desirable
  • An understanding of Australian NSW Work Health and Safety Legislation and the ability to research
  • Valid driver’s licence as travel will be required across the NSW store portfolio
